Seeing a ‘Nameless Face’

Today my new single “Nameless Face,” the second release from my upcoming EP, is out on all streaming platforms. The song, which was written in 2014, was inspired by a national news story about a man who was shot and killed by a police officer following the commission of a crime. However, the man did not have a weapon. I wrote the song the day I heard about it:

“Hey there, look at me
Standing tall for you to see
My hands reaching up to the sky
As your aim’s set on seeing me die
I’m just a nameless face that scares the child in you.”

What began as a response to a news story becomes more personal in the third verse:

“Hey there, look at me
I am choosing to be free
Take your script, write your own part
I’ll write mine with the voice of my heart
Or that nameless face will be staring in the mirror back at me.”
